Contemplazione
Yesterday I
listened to a wonderful piece of music. It was “Contemplazione” by Alfredo
Catalani.
Who is this man,
sitting in the gardino di populi?
Gazing at the town
in which he has seen
Botticelli’s painting:
The Birth of Venus.
Is his heart
burning with desire
for Simmonetta?
Is he yearning
for the golden age
of the Medici’s?
Is he having a vision
of the future
where il duce
will make the trains run in time?
No.
He is just
contemplating
his next composition,
full of yearning and desire
for Classic fm to play it on the wireless again and again – and again…
I was sure that I had to buy a CD of Catalani’s music and I did.
