In memory of the poor potholer's demise under the Wilde
Kaiser.
I am wide open, I reach out forever in the dark. I discover the cave in the Wilde Kaiser Mountains and on entering, I stand at the top of a sloping tunnel. I am all alone and I switch on the light of the torch. The floor is rough and I have to watch my step for I do not want to die. I have to be careful and measure my steps down the sloping, dark passage. If only I could get more light to go down into the dark.
The slope becomes steeper with each step and I am franticly trying to stop myself from sliding. I have to stay calm and search with the light for places to hold. Suddenly the sloping tunnel becomes a bottomless pit and I am falling. Speed increases according to the laws of gravity and time slows. I am falling into a black hole and the light has escaped me. I am so small, so fast do I move and yet, so slowly do I fly.
Time stops and I am in a dark space without direction, no up or down, and in my ears the faint roaring of raw energy – I see the endless lights of everlasting galaxies…
With the universe surrounding me I am wide open, reaching forever into deep spaces.
I am inside the mountain and the mountain is inside me. I am inside the universe and the universe is inside me. I am the mountain and the universe, space without and within and
I am wide open, reaching forever into darkness.
I am wide open, reaching forever waiting in the dark.
I am wide open waiting in the deep.
I am wide open reaching forever for the light…
